GIN Proposal

Governments

  • China
  • India
  • United States

China, India, and the United States are the world's three most populous countries, and if they all work together, they can come up with a solution that will not only benefit China but also India, the U.S. and the world.  India has faced and is facing issues concerning population growth; however, it is not struggling in the same ways as China due to a greater youth population created by "two-child norm" that is incentivized by the government (Economist).  India could present its "two-child norm" as a potential solution to China's problems.  The United States could also aid China due to its economic and money borrowing interests in the country.

International Civil
Society Organizations

  • Human Rights Watch
  • Friends of the Earth

Human Rights Watch could work with the Chinese government to end forced sterilizations and abortions, gendercide, and design a policy to manage China's population that does not violate human rights.  The Chinese government could also consult Friends of the Earth on how to regulate its population while at the same time minimizing environmental impact.

Businesses

  • Apple
  • General Motors

Apple and General Motors both have economic interests in China because of the large number of Chinese they employ to manufacture their products.  They could discuss a policy with the Chinese government about that would solve the current economic problems that resulted from the one-child policy.
