Propaganda Posters

Posters, such as these, with slogans promoting the one-child policy can be seen throughout China on buildings and billboards.  Many of the posters have threatening messages such as, "If sterilization or abortion demands are rejected, houses will be toppled, cows will be confiscated (Hennock).  The Chinese government is seeking to replacing these intimidating messages with "softer" ones that promote the policy while also calling for gender equality like, "Lower fertility, better quality; boys and girls are all treasures" (Hennock).

Other Slogans (Hays):
  • “Have Fewer, Better Children to Create Prosperity for the Next Generation.”
  • “Have Fewer Children Live Better Lives”
  • "Stabilize Family Planning and Create a Brighter Future”
